The 2019 Mercedes Benz G63 and Pirelli

2018 will see the arrival of one of Mercedes Benz’s off-road class acts, the G Class or the G63. The all new 2019 G63 4WD from the German car maker will hit Australia this August.

The vehicle was launched earlier this year at the Geneva Motor show on March 6th and a few lucky people have already had the chance to test drive this feature packed and package overloaded military style 4WD.

The 2019 Mercedes G63 starts at $247,000 + all on-road costs. With 3 packages to choose from, plus additional extras like the Edition1 package and the night package which raises your cost by a further $5,900 and includes 22” wheels and tinted indicators.

The G63 engine has been re-built to provide extra power than its predecessor, putting out 430Kw at 850Nm of torque. The all new 4.0-litre twin turbo V8 get the iconic off-roader from nought to 100km in just 4.5 seconds.

So, all this off-roading, the car must be rugged, inside right? Well, its lush! Nappa leather seating and 64 different ambient interior lighting settings, 12.5” display, 16 speaker sound system from Burmester and a massage function built into the seating is a few of the options included in the Edition 1 package which will set you back $267,000 + on road costs.

When it comes down to tyres, we have seen a few different brands chosen for the G63 but consistently, Pirelli have worked closely with Mercedes Benz on two particular tread patterns. Designed for heavy ridged driving that is intended with the G63 the Scorpion ATR and Scorpion Zero tyres are a perfect fit for this vehicle.

The Scorpion ATR

The Scorpion ATR was developed in conjunction with Mercedes Benz and is an All-Terrain tyre design for modern SUVs, 4WD crossovers and All-Terrain vehicles like the G63.

This tyre comes in two sizes but 22” is designed specifically to fit in to the G63 Edition 1 package which includes the 22” wheels.

Its tenacious and reliable off-road, while providing quietness and resistance to wear on-road. Brandishing the M+S markings on the sidewall, the ATR is designed for the harshest winter conditions.

It’s the perfect mix of controlled performance off road and comfort on road. Resistance to aquaplaning and low levels of road noise, the ATR is quiet and comfortable in the cabin whilst touring on high-way driving.

Wide and rugged shoulder blocks provide extra stoppage during braking on-road while a unique curved central channel allows for extra control and performance off-road.

Pirelli have also reinforced the side wall of the Scorpion ATR to produce a robust tyre that will stand up in the harshest of Australian conditions.

The Scorpion ATR is a great all-round tyre for your Mercedes Benz G-Class for on and off the road. It will perform in a wide range of driving surfaces including mud, rock, sand and highway.
