The Pirelli PZero - Likely choice for Lamborghini’s latest Countach

Vintage Classic Reborn

The classic Lamborghini from the 80’s was an instant icon of success. The supercar that defined an era and turned everything on its head. When the German car maker decided for a rebirth, there was only one tyre that would suit.

Lamborghini and Pirelli’s long standing relationship stands for decades and includes the likes of Urus, Aventador, Huracan, Evo, Sian and Centrato.

Every OE tyre Pirelli produces is specifically designed with the vehicle's performance and handling characteristics in mind. Creating the ‘perfect match’ tyre takes years of development and an understanding of refinement.

The Car

The all new Countach taking on characteristics from the Sian and Huracan EVO.

The LP400 was the first production Countach by design studio Bertone and Marcello Gandini in 1974. It was vastly designed around Lamborghini’s V12 rear, mid-engine and quickly became known as the ‘Italian wedge’

The Countach changed the way sports car manufacturers thought about design and performance. It was an aggressive and bold statement back in the 70’s. Fast-forward to 14th of August 2021 and the car world was rocked again.

A few heard the whispers coming from the Lambo camp that a revisited Countach might be in the works but didn’t know that a fully ready and tested Countach LPI 800-4 would be released and taking orders.

The Countach LPI 800-4 is a mid-engine hybrid electric hypercar, sharing the same undercarriage as the Sian FKP 37 but with some new technology. The regenerative braking system allows the Countach to store energy in the onboard supercapacitor. Yes, a supercapacitor. Sounds very “Back to the Future”, which is basically where this car is from.

The car combines a naturally aspirated 6.5lt V12 and a 48 volt electric engine which is cleverly placed inside the 7-speed automated manual gearbox producing 800hp, acceleration from 0-100km in 2.8 seconds and topping out at 355kmph.

Lamborghini trusts Pirelli with PZero tyres

When it comes to homologation and OE tyres, there is only one brand Lamborghini trusts that happens to also be Italian. Pirelli have been at the forefront of high-performance tyres since 1922 and have worked closely with Lamborghini for the past 4 decades.

Lamborghini has been working with Pirelli and the P Zero tyres since the 80’s. The Perfect Fit!

The P Zero tyre first hit roads in 1986 and was quickly picked up by Ferrai, Lamborghini, Pagani, Aston Martin and Maserati as original equipment tyres for their vast array of ultra-high-performance vehicles.

The Lamborghini LPI 800-4 will come equipped with the Pirelli P Zero Corsa tyres. With racing spec rubber compounds, the tyre is best suited for high-performance vehicles like the Countach. Coming standard is 20 inch up front and 21 inches in the rear on the classic telephone style wheels.

Pirelli knows a thing or two about performance racing tyres, having spent the last 10 years equipping Formula One racing teams with a full gamut of racing tyres from wet to dry.
