The longstanding professional partnership between Pirelli and Porsche

When it comes to vehicle / tyre manufacturer relationships, Pirelli seem to have the right combination of quality product delivery and industry experience. When the first Pirelli tyre was fitted to the German automaker back in 1982, a 40 year partnership was born.

Today, Porsche and Pirelli have redefined the word bespoke with over 261 tyre types.

Back in the 80’s, Porshce demanded a lot from its tyres. When asked to design a tyre that would ultimately handle the overhanging footprint of the 911 flat-six, this meant that Pirelli would have to design a tyre from scratch like no other.

Pirelli is known for high performance tyres that bridge the gap between road and track. Designed and tested with years of motorsport success, it's this kind of success that has the major high performance auto makers like Lamborghini, Pagani, Porsche and Mercedes Benz looking for bespoke tyres.

The P Zero range of tyres was first launched in 1986 but the first 19” P Zero tyre was debuted on a special Porsche 911 Turbo, developed in 1991 by Swiss tuner Rinspeed. Rinspeed was renowned for out-there concept vehicles of the future.

Pirelli’s tailor made fit for Porsche and their wide range of vehicles was no easy task but with years of design and motorsport research, the P Zero encompassed the bespoke tread design and rubber compounds that Porsche were looking for.

The “N” label is the special sidewall mark given to Porsche and its range of OE tyres, including the P Zero Corser and Scorpion Verde, with the latter also available in Scorpion Winter and Sottozero 3.

Now, with over 261 type-approved tyres designed specifically for Porsche, there is a tyre for just about every car in the line-up, including Cayan, Panemera, Cayman and Boxster.

Porsche proudly boasts that 70% of its vehicles built in their Zuffenhausen factory are still on the road today. The Zuffenhausen factory, located in the northern suburbs of Stuttgart, Germany, still offers free factory and museum tours, however bookings are essential.

Vintage or modern, Pirelli holds the right ingredients for the ultimate performance tyre, while keeping to the original aesthetics of Porsche's marque design standards.
