When it comes to OE fitment, Pirelli is trusted by the most prestigious car manufacturers in the world. So, when Hyundai approached the Italian tyre company back in 2016 to produce an OE fitment tyre for the their newly designed performance i30N hatchback, Pirelli had the perfect formula.
The I30 Fastback N was revealed in Europe this year and will make its way to Australian shores in early 2019. Like the Hatchback that came out last year, we’ll only see the more powerful version of the Hyundai i30 N Fastback. 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine bursting with 202kw, 353 Nm of torque. This can be increased to 378 Nm with an Overboost pump.

Produced in Settimo Italy, the high-tech manufacturing plant produces the P Zero in the dimensions 235/35 R19 for the Fastback N. Pirelli’s perfect fit strategy makes yet another mark on Automotive design with a special token on the tyre wall of the P Zero tyres, ‘HN’. The N stands for Hyundai’s high-performance category and symbolises a chicane.
Testing of performance and durability came as a result of hours of rigorous testing at the infamous Nordschleife at the Nurburgring circuit. This track is famous for ground-breaking vehicles and concept testing. Located in Germany, the current track record was broken in 2018 by the Lamborghini Aventador LP770-4 SVJ on Pirelli tyres with a time of 6:44.97
During the VLN endurance race, the i30N had a best lap time of 9:44.72. Certainly not a bad time at all! Slotted in between two Porsches (the 911 GT3 and the Cayman), with a field of nearly 200 entries, the Hyundai finished in 85th position. It came in ahead of rival category vehicles, such as the Renault Clio RS and Toyota 86.
